Notes from Thursday's Class (4-3-08)
Presentations began today. After each presentation, students filled out a journal entry about each presenter. These were the journal questions:
1. Did the presenter have a clear objective? (1 - 5 points )
2. What the graph useful in helping the presenter accomplish their objective? (1-5 points)
3. Did the presenter give a good presentation? (1-5 points)
4. What was most memorable or beneficial to you about the presentation?
After the conclusion of presentations, students had to answer the following four questions about linear equations:
1. Write an equation for the line that passes through the points (2, 11) and (5, 20).
2. Write and equation for the line that has a slope of 4 and y-intercept of 7.
3. Write the equation of a line that has a slope of 7 and passes through the point (2,18)
4. Write the equation of a line that has a y-intercept of (0,5) and passes through the point (4, -11)

Scribe Post April1, 2008
Today in class what we did was to organize 4 graphs from 1-Best 4-worst.
We had to give a class vote on the orders:
4,2,3,1 (20 people)
4,3,2,1 (5 people)
20 people got the order right.
“To prove that it’s not what you know, its what you can do” Mr. Rochester.
Format the trade line. Press control click and then you have to then go to format tredline and then go to options after click display R.
Insert a new work sheet, then you are going to make a X and Y chart. Take one of your graphs, take the information in that graph and make it into X and Y chart.
After you do that highlight the points you want to graph.
Then click on insert chart
Choose scatter plot.
Click o chart menu.
Add trend line
Go to “options”
After you are done with this which will look something like this:
You need to tell Mr.Rochester what was your error if you had one.
Happy April Fools Day!!!!

Do Now
Here are the questions and answers on the Do now:
1.Explain fully what the slope and y-intercept
represent in this case.
The Y- intercepts represents the average amount a sales person made in 1998 and the total was $25,650.00. The slope represents the difference in which the total amount a sales person got paid was between 1998 and 2008.
2.Predict the value of what "y" would be given an "x"
value that is 10 units higher than your largest "x" value
in your table data.
The "Y" with a given "X" would be 48.05 if the "X"
was 20.
3.Explain what you would do to find out.
I added 20 to the formula because 20 as an "X" value
is higher than the one i have now.
4.Explain how on might judge, before collecting data, if a pair
of variables has a linear relationship.
One might judge that if they see that the variables has a
linear relationship is just simply see the pattern in the numbers
and hopefully pick them up.

Class Blog – 3/25/08 (Graphs and examples are shown on the moodle page under this date)
1) 1st we did the do now which consisted of us finding the slope of the points given on the graph. After we found the slope, we had to find the equation for the segments we made to find the slope, and afterwards we had to find the y-intercept of that line as well.
2) The second part of class we discussed Mr. Rochesters “Benchmark” the topic he chose was the Year and Income of a salesman. The data he used was –
Independent Variable = X
Dependant Variable = Y
Salary “depends on the” year
Y depends on X
Salary “is a function of” the year.
3) Further information he used is on the graph that I uploaded with this post. It shows exactly what he did on the graph he used to explain the project. The whole class was to teach us what we are going to be doing on the benchmark.

Question 5 help
Cast in 2007=455 million role 20% from last year
In 2007 they were 455,000,000
When finding percents try this process if your stuck
say the number is 200,000,000 and you need 58% of that try dividing 200,000,000 by 100 2,000,000=1%
since that’s 1% multiply that by 58 and you will have 58%

Late Scribe Post for Weds February 6
On Wednesday we didn't really have class instead we had a debate. The debate was on the "grading policy" and how Mr. Rochester should run the class. Mostly Chris C., Kelly and Mr. Rochester did the debating with a few other students. We didn't get to get around to the class work but Mr. Rochester gave us the paper to do for hw.

Post for Thursday...
On Thursday, February 14th, 2008 we began with a debate against whether Chris really deserved a "c" on his post for Wednesday. Mr. Rochester explained that he did not give enough information and the information given by Chris would confuse a person who has even been away for only a day. During this time we wondered about the output of this argument and waited patiently. Finally Mr.Rochester said, "If you are absent then put your name down and I will not have to grade someone's scribe post." Everyone agreed to this, and class began.
As we began out normal class Mr.Rochester explained about out project that began on Wednesday. We had to use Tape Rulers to find out the height, weight, and length of the tables, cabinets, and object around the classroom, including the classroom itself. We had to do a full sketch, and hand it in. This went on until 1:35 p.m, and we left finished with our work.

Scribe Post for Wednesday
Today we had to finish the answer keys on google docs before we got our quizzes back. After that Mr.Rochester handed our quiz back to see what we did wrong or what we did right. We also did a journal after we got our test back to tell Mr.Rochester what we wanted to get or what we deserved to get. He went around helping everyone who didn't understand the problems on the quiz. Whoever was finished with that, they had to get tape measures to measure the tables and such that were in the room so we could prepare to finally make the room on google sketch-up. We had to measure the width, height, and length.

Robbie's Focus Songs
To be honest...I just like the song and it was easier to embed the video with it rather than put just the song. There are other songs too.
This one again is just for the song. Which is very relaxing. I'd put more piano music, but I don't want to spam the blog :)
Perry's Relaxing Songs
For my relaxing songs I chose two. One in hindi and one in english. Both videos below were made by me with my example songs.

First order of business: The quiz is Tuesday because Mr. Rochester does not have us tomorrow. The quiz is based off of seven assignments. Mr. Rochester gave us 10 minutes to find these assignments, they are from January 22, January 23, January 25, February 1, February 5, February 6, and February 7. After Mr. Rochester gave out the classwork he took questions from last night’s classwork and homework. people had problems with numbers with and …….number car:2280 commission 10% .1(2280)=$228.00. Net proceeds, 2250-228=2052….method 2 is .9(2280)=2052 number is $698 commission: 2% .02(690)=13.80 net proceeds…. 690.00-13.80=676.20 method 2: 690(.98)=696.20….number 4 is 3.5% .035(96.45) net proceeds = $93.07
Mr. Rochester had to leave class early so he said that between 8:00 and 9:30 tonight he will be online to answer questions about anything on the seven sheets or classwork/homework for today.

Ratios, Proportions, and Percents Tuesday's scribe
Percent, just like fractions, describe how many parts out of a whole. In percent, the part is compared to 100.
A percent is a ratio that compares a number to 100
Example:
1/4=25/100=25%=.25
5/11=.45=45%
Of in mathematics mean multiply.
Is in mathematics mean equal.
Example:
276/x=60/100
276•100/60=60x/60
x=460

Late Post about Friday's class (1-25-08)
In todays class we went over the Hw from 1/23/08. We found out how to work with fractions and what method to use to solve them.
Example: 4/15 = a/75 this was the starting problem. 4x75 = 15xa Next you have to cross miltiply
300/15 = 15a/15 After you multiply then you divide the.
a = 20 ths is your final result.
We talked about the ratios and what different ways you could have set them up.
Example: For every five wins the basketball team lost one. you could have compared wins to losses 5/1
losses to wins 1/5
or losses to total 1/6.

What we went over today in class were grades. We talked about why we received the grades we got and how we could improve in this Q3 section. We had some controversy about it because I know I did but so far it worked out as far as i know. He also have us an assignment that went along with the homework that was due the previous night. We had to choose a problem from PART A and B and give a detailed description on how to solve the problem.

I NEED HELP!
MR. ROCH I DON'T GET HOW TO DO THESE WORD PROBLEMS, I DON'T GET THE CONCEPTS OF READING BETWEEN THE LINES OF THE WORD PROBLEMS
Changing Division to Multiplication
